Most doodle dogs, including the Bernedoodles are considered to be hypoallergenic because they shed little to no hair.  However, no dog is truly non-allergenic. In the case of Bernedoodles, they are allergy-friendly because of their single coat. While all Bernedoodles coats types are considered to be allergy-friendly, the curly coat is considered to be ideal for severe allergy sufferers. Bernedoodles are amazing companions with little to no pesky shedding. While all dogs shed, doodles do not shed nearly as much as other dogs due to their curly coat. This is a major perk of owning a doodle. F1b bernedoodles are one of the least shedding generations of all dogs, and the same is true for later generations.

Bernedoodles range in size based on the size of the parents. Size ranges often fall in these categories: mini, medium, standard, or giant.

Mini: 10-25 pounds, 15 inches tall (or less)

Medium: 25-55 pounds, 15-22 inches tall

Standard: 55-90 pounds, 23-27 inches tall

Giant: 90-110 pounds, greater than 27 inches tall

Bernedoodles come in many coat types, sizes, and colors. They have cute, floppy ears and long tails, with a curly or wavy coat.

  • Straight Coat: bernedoodles with a straight or unfurnished coat usually shed the most and are the least hypoallergenic of the three coat types. Even though this coat is called “straight” or flat, it may actually have a slight wave to it. The length of the dog’s straight hair depends mostly on the length of the parent’s hair. Straight-coated Bernedoodles are not very common; you’ll mostly find them with wavy or curly coats.
  • Wavy Coat: bernedoodles with a wavy coat are low-to non-shedding, and are the most common. This coat is very free-flowing and often has a kinked or wavy appearance.
  • Curly Coat: Bernedoodles with a curly coat most resemble a poodle and will shed the least. This is the most hypoallergenic of the three types. The curls on this coat are usually tight with a soft texture. Curly coats may still shed, but they shed the hair upon themselves rather than on your floor. :)

Colors:

  • Tri-colored (most resembling the Bernese Mountain Dog)
  • Black and White
  • Solid Color
  • Phantom
  • Merle

Bernedoodle's fur can become pretty shaggy when unmanaged. Most owners opt to consistent grooming, especially around the face, feet, and fanny. Not only does it keep their cute appearance top notch, but it helps keep long fur out of sensitive areas.

Bernedoodles are highly intelligent animals, and get most of their smarts from the Poodle side of the family. They are friendly, loyal and easy to train. Doodles love to learn new tricks because it makes them feel like they have an important job to do.

They are very friendly with both people and other dogs, making them a great family pet because they get along with everybody, even children. They like to play fetch, swim, and play with other dogs for hours... and once they’ve received all the exercise they need, they can be very calm and cuddly.

Bernedoodles are often used as service dogs because they are obedient and are sensitive. This means that they are very keen to pick up on non-verbal cues from their owners. They may get upset easily if they are scolded, but they are also encouraged by positive responses. They seem to be able to pick up on how their humans are feeling, which makes them excellent therapy dogs.

These pups are highly affectionate and playful making Bernedoodles the perfect family pet. They are especially fond of younger kids and provide a wonderful lifelong companion as children grow into adults. Though they're intelligent pups, they tend to be goofy and love attention from their humans.

ENS is a series of five exercises to introduce mild forms of stimulations and stressors to puppies.  The exercises include:

  • Head held erect
  • Head pointed down
  • Supine Position
  • Thermal stimulation
  • Tactile stimulation

These stimulations take place for 3-5 seconds, and this brief interaction daily can kick start their neurological system and improve their natural abilities. ENS takes place during a crucial time in a puppy’s neonatal period, starting on day 3 from birth and lasting until day 16. During this developmental phase, puppies are very sensitive and highly dependent on momma. Though their eyes and ears are still mostly closed, they are sensitive to touch! ENS allows us to show puppies the world is safe, and humans are good.

Studies prove these exercises improve neurological and overall development, emotional stability, and health. Some numbers suggest 35% of a puppy’s performance is up to their genetics and up to 65% is determined by their environment. For this reason, it’s crucial that a puppy gets enough body handling, socialization, training, a good diet, and a safe living environment from birth.
